Uniontown High School is the only secondary school in U.S.D. #235 and is comprised of 309 square miles, which is, for the majority, rural. Within our district are the following communities: Uniontown, Bronson, Redfield, Mapleton, and Hiattville. Farming is the major source of employment; however, a few are employed in local small businesses as well as employment in neighboring Fort Scott, Kansas.
Uniontown Junior and Senior High School has a current enrollment of 237 students, grades 7-12 for the 2006-2007 school year. The Junior High and High School remains in the Kansas Class 2A category. The original high school building was constructed in 1957, with an impressive facility improvement added in 1999-2000. This improvement includes the addition of the seventh and eighth grades to our membership. The junior-high students were added to the facility beginning with the fall of 2000.
This move facilitated the teaching of Junior High students by many of the high school faculty. Additionally, ongoing updates with technology are continuing to provide greater opportunities for, and enhancing student learning.
