Eagles bounce back with victory over Patriots

UNIONTWON, Kansas.

"Just a week after suffering a shoutout loss to Central Heights in the season opener, Uniontown bounced back to beat Howard-West Elk, 39-0, in its first home game of the season.

The Eagles (1-1) saw David Shank rush for 75 yards and three scores in the season.

"The kids came out and played with a lot of heart and intensity," Uniontown head coach Jim Mason said.

The Eagles cored 20 points in the first quarter. Ben Dixon posted the first score on a 33-yard run with Zach Travis connecting with Drew Johnson for the two-point conversion.

Shank then rushed for the first of his two scores on a two-yard run. Travis then, connected with Cody Tinsley for another nine yards out for another score.

Shank scored twice in the second quarter on runs of four and six yards. A successful extra point kick after the second one made it 33-0.

Travis Aikins scored on a 10-yard run in the third to cap the scoring.

Uniontown had 216 of its 235 yards on the ground. The Eagles held the Patriots to 29 yards rushing on 23 carries although they did pass for 119 yards.

Jordan Woods and Ethan Hammond each had interceptions. Woods' pick set up Shank's first touchdown.

Uniontown will travel to Jayhawk-Linn next week.

West Elk fell to 0-2 with the loss."
