Programs Offered at WBE

The following programs are offered at WBE to enhance our student's learning.
Bal-A-Vis-X - This a class taught by Mrs. Hall that uses Balance, Auditory, Visual, and Exercise skills to help students learn to focus and improve academic skills. It requires full-body coordination and focused attention. This program works for All students, and will help them gain eye-hand coordination as well as growth in their overall confidence and self-esteem.
Band - This is a class that is offered to anyone in the sixth grade.
Bully Plan - The WBE staff has developed and implemented a Bully Plan to deter students from intimidating and humiliating other students. Within the plan teachers directly teach good character skills in a positive proactive way. Click here to view the complete plan
Four Year Old At-Risk Preschool - The four year old class is for students who turn four by August 31 and who meet certain criteria as outlined by the state. The class is Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Kindergarten Independent Developmental Success - The K.I.D.S. program is developed for kindergarten aged children who are not ready for the regular kindergarten.
Media Center - The West Bourbon Elementary Media Center is located in the center of the WBE classrooms. Books for all students are available for checkout. Periodicals, such as newspapers and magazines, are also available, as well as internet access. Reduced Class Sized Reading - These regular education classes from the second grade through the sixth grader. This program enables classroom reading groups to be smaller and offer more individualized instruction
Singing Eagles - Singing Eagles is a voluntary chorus for 5th and 6th grade students. Goals for the group include developing the singing voice, singing in parts, preparing for performance, and musical enjoyment! This program is directed by Rhonda Allen
Pencil Shop - The sixth graders have a pencil shop that is designed to help students use a hands on approach to increasing their math skills. They sell pencils and erasers to the other students in WBE.
EARLY CHILDHOOD SPECIAL EDUCATION PRESCHOOL - This Preschool is for three, four and five year old students who have an Individual Education Plan. The class meets on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 12:20 – 3:10 pm.
Standardized Test for Assessment of Reading - S.T.A.R. is a computerized test we give individually to help determine a students independent reading level.This reading level is used with the Accelerated Reader section of Reading Renaissance. This allows teachers to place each student at his or her reading ability level to begin Accelerated Reading.
Title 1 Services - Title I Reading and Math services are provided school wide. This program enables students with difficulties in reading and math to experience the one-on-one direct instruction that they need to feel successful in the classroom. Title I uses several different strategies and techniques to teach students the skills they need.
Parental Involvement in Title 1 - The Building Level Team, WBE Site Base Council, and Student Improvement Team consisting of parents, teachers, principals, and member of the community have input in the development of our Parental Involvement Program.

"WINGS" Program- Character Education classes that each child, each day participates in, immediately following mid-day Lunch. This program is lead by Mr. Tracy Smith, Principal of W.B.E.
