Uniontown FFA Wins District Horse Judging Contest
After winning the “B” division (freshman and sophomores only) at last year’s district Horse
Judging CDE, Uniontown knew it would be tough to duplicate that success in the “A” division
which features primarily junior and senior aged high school students. However, after judging
four haltered classes, a Western Pleasure class and a Trail class, Uniontown FFA was able to
bring home another district championship with their 1 st place finish in the “A” Division.
Leading the way for Uniontown was junior Nick Hathaway who earned 3 rd high individual after
winning the “B” division last year. Fellow junior Haydon Schaaf medaled for the 3 rd consecutive
year with his 6 th place finish and senior Danielle Nading rounded out the team’s scorecard by
ranking 7 th . Also on the team were juniors Graham Hathaway, Cody Elam and Maddie Ard.
In addition to Uniontown FFA winning the overall Horse Judging Career Development Event,
they were also named the High Team Overall in the Oral Reasons division. Along with the
aforementioned six judging classes, contestants must present two sets of oral reasons to a
contest official. Essentially, the contestants explain to the contest official how and why they
placed the class the way they did. Haydon Schaaf tied for first in Oral Reasons with two other
individuals while Danielle Nading tied for 5 th .
