Fuhrman Wins Best of Show at Prairie View

The annual Prairie View Art Show took place on Wednesday, March 28th. The day consisted of a juried show and two onsite competitions. The theme this year was “Googie to the future” with both competitions having to stay true to the theme. Think futuristic or the Jetsons to understand the Googie style. The two-dimensional side was a group drawing on large paper using your choice of media while the three-dimensional competition was also a group activity and consisted of making a Googie architecture. Even though Uniontown failed to place in each event, we still had fun. Uniontown was highly successful in the juried art show. We took third place overall out of 15 schools. Prairie View outscored UHS by only 1 point. Besides Uniontown, the high schools that were in attendance were: Central Heights, Erie, Girard, West Franklin, Pittsburg, Chanute, Osawatomie, Northeast Arma, Pleasanton, Anderson County, Spring Hill, Wellsville, Paola, and Prairie View. Five Best of Shows were granted and Junior Chance Fuhrman earned one for the Eagles. Chance’s white charcoal drawing of a dog behind a chain link fence is an excellent piece and well deserving of this recognition. It is drawn on a 16”x20” piece of black drawing paper and is titled “Beware of Dog”. Mr. Fuhrman is a student in both Art 3 and Graphic Design 2. UHS secured four Artistic Excellence awards and two Artistic Merits.  Cristine Micabalo was awarded Artistic Excellence for her origami vase named “One at a Time”. She is a junior and enrolled in Art 3 and also in Graphic Design 2. Also earning recognition was Abigail Jefferis, Matt Morgan, and Zoe McClure. All three students are juniors and Art 3 students as well and earned their ribbons for their large scratch boards.  Abigail’s is titled “Chicken Scratch”, Zoe’s is named “Creation”, and “Pride” is the name of Matt’s. Both Abigail and Zoe also won Artistic Merits. Miss Jefferis received her recognition for “Leave Me Alone” which is a black and white charcoal drawing on gray paper. It also won a Silver Key Award at Scholastics earlier this month. Zoe’s artwork was a white charcoal on black paper and was named “Eye See You”. Overall it was a fun day I am happy with how well our artwork did.
