Uniontown High School Reports Rising ACT Scores

Uniontown High School Reports Rising ACT Scores

The results of the 2018 ACT were recently released, and Uniontown High School announced that its scores have increased in all areas.

Uniontown showed significant gains with the largest gains being a 3.4-point increase in English and a 3.3-point increase in Science.  Math showed a gain of 1.1 points and Reading showed a gain of 3.2 points.  The overall composite score for the fifteen 2018 graduates who took the ACT increase 2.6 points.

Uniontown has reason to be proud as its scores are higher than the state average in every category.  The national average for students entering college for freshman was 20.8 in 2017.  The 2018 national statistics have not yet been released.  The Uniontown 2018 graduates had an average composite score of 24.0.

Uniontown is also performing well for the percentage of students testing ready for college-level coursework.  Ninety-three percent (state-wide 67%) of 2018 Uniontown graduates were college ready in English Composition, sixty percent (state-wide 44%) were college ready in College Algebra, seventy-three percent (state-wide 52%) in College Social Science, and sixty percent (state-wide 41%) in College Biology.

“While increasing scores are cause to celebrate, we still think we can be even better,” said Superintendent Bret Howard.  “However, this is evidence that our school improvement efforts are moving in a great direction. Many of our students may be at an economic disadvantage but they don’t have to be at an academic disadvantage.  I am very proud of the work our teachers and student are doing to get better every day.”
