Notes from the School Nurse

Dr. Destiny Foulk, from The Eye Center of Ft. Scott comes to our Schools to conduct free vision screens each year. Young children are difficult to accurately screen and we appreciate very much her willingness to come.

If your child does not pass their visual screen I send a notice home with your child. We encourage parents to follow up with a more in-depth screen by an eye care specialist.

Each year our pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th, and 12 graders have vision screens. Parents and teachers may always request a vision screen for a child who they suspect might have a problem.

Also, each year I screen student’s hearing in certain grades. Typically, Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, 3rd, 6th, 9th, and 12 grades are screened. Again, if parents or teachers request I screen other students I do those as well.

Please call us at school anytime you have a comment or concern. I am at school between about 7:30am-4:00pm. My number is 620-756-4335.

Thank you,

Betty Dennis, RN

School nurse
