On Friday December 6, the Uniontown Eagles faced off against the Marmaton Valley Wildcats for the first game of the basketball season. All four teams (Varsity and JV for both boys and girls) won their games. There was much excitement and support in the stands from the Eagles’ families and friends.

The Varsity girls beat Moran 33-29. Danielle Howard and Karleigh Schoenberger each scored 14 points, and Danielle had many of our defensive rebounds, deflections, and steals. Karleigh and Sammie Hampton also had many rebounds and a few steals. In total, we had 21 turnovers, which is something we can look to improve on. Said head coach Dustin Miller, “This game was definitely a tale of two halves. We had a very disappointing start. We struggled in several aspects of the game. Early foul trouble made us go deep into the bench. Fortunately, the girls fought back and won the game in the second half outscoring Moran 20 to 5.”

The Varsity boys won against Moran as well with a score of 63-10. We made 17 out of 47 2-point shots and 5 out of 15 3-pointers. We also scored 33 points off of turnovers by the other team. We had 19 assists, 19 deflections, and 18 steals, many of which can be attributed to Drew Perry and Jake Harvey. Jake also had the most points in the game at 26. Clay Sutterby scored 14 points for the Eagles and Hunter Schaaf had the most rebounds. Head coach Chad Hays stated, “I am proud of how hard the boys played. The intensity was good and I thought we shared the ball well. If we can keep the energy on defense and execute on offense, we will be tough team to beat.”
