The annual Prairie View Art Show took place on Tuesday, March 30th. The day consisted of a juried art show and two separate onsite competitions. The theme was “Dinosaurs vs Robots” with both of the competitions fitting the theme. On the two-dimensional side of things, groups used chalk to make a scene on the sidewalk outside the school. The three-dimensional competition was also a group activity which consisted of creating either a robot or a dinosaur out of clay. Uniontown placed third in the 3-D event in which the group sculpted out a dinosaur head. Uniontown was extremely successful in the juried art show. Out of the 25 artworks that we submitted, the Eagles netted 15 ribbons. We took third place overall out of the schools present. Besides Uniontown, the high schools that were in attendance were: Central Heights, Girard, Pittsburg, Paola, and Prairie View. Five Best of Shows were granted and senior Rhian Gorman earned one for the Eagles. Rhian’s charcoal portrait of a boy is an excellent piece and well deserving of this recognition. It is drawn on a 16”x20” piece of gray drawing paper. Rhian is a enrolled in Art 4, Art 5, as well as Graphic Design 3 and she also was awarded an Artistic Merit for another one of her charcoal drawings. Besides the Best of Show, UHS secured a total of eight Artistic Excellence awards (blue ribbons) and 6 Artistic Merits (red ribbons). Junior Kaydra Woods earned Excellence ribbons on all four of her artworks and senior Libby Schaaf received 2 blue ribbons and one red while fellow senior Sammie Hampton took home one of each. Also winning an Artistic Excellence ribbon was Stephen Robinson who is a senior. Earning the rest of the Artistic Merit red ribbons were juniors Alie Fuhrman and Laney Covey and seniors Ausytn Beerbower and Karleigh Schoenberger.
