Austin Maycumber earned a 3rd place medal in Prose. This was a last-minute change from his Humorous Solo Acting (HSA) that he had planned to do. For HSA, the piece is memorized; however, for Prose, competitors use a book. Austin learned of this change late last night, so this morning, he was hustling to put the written form into a notebook to get ready for Prose, which also has different rules from HSA for the types of movement and props that can be used. So, to earn a 3rd-place overall medal in an event that he didn't plan to do until the last minute, he did phenomenally.
Lillyan Robinson earned a spot at state Forensics with her Original Oration (OO) speech about the use of Artificial Intelligence. This is a speech that she wrote on Wednesday and had memorized in its entirety for today's meet. So to earn 3rd place overall was quite a feat. She earned a medal for 3rd overall, and since the 1st-place competitor had already qualified for state, this moved Lillyan up to a state-qualifying spot.
Ash Sporleder knew nothing in the morning about what Impromptu Speaking (Imp2) actually was. She quickly found out and quickly rose to the occasion. She drew topics from quotes to idioms and was able to develop three short speeches in about 5 minutes each. She earned a medal for 4th place overall.
Lexi Irsik and Ash Sporleder also began this day not knowing what exactly to expect when I entered them into Improvised Duet Acting (IDA). Not only did they have fun creating humorous skits, but they were only one point shy of breaking into finals. This is a spectacular feat for two novices.
Overall, the team had a great time and learned a lot about Forensics, bringing home some pretty impressive hardware.
Next stop, Burlington on March 10, and then on to Marmaton Valley on March 28. State Forensics will be on May 1 in Sedgwick, KS.

This spring, we are doing things a little differently. Students and parents will meet with the student's seminar teacher. Here, the student will go over grades, enrollment information, and future plans. If you need to meet with any other of your students' teachers, please call the high school office and have Ms. Bradley assist with that.
Please arrive 5 minutes before your scheduled time. Each session is 15 minutes in length. You only need to sign up for one slot with the seminar teacher.
Also, on Wednesday and Thursday at 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm, there will be informational sessions with Ms. Mason and Ms. Russell to discuss different activities, sports, and trades programs that are available at UHS.

Kindergarten Roundup Coming in March
A screening clinic for 2026-2027 kindergarten students has been scheduled for Monday, March 23 at West Bourbon Elementary. To be eligible for kindergarten, your child must be 5 years old on or before August 31, 2026.
Students who will be new to WBE will sign up for a 30 minute slot to be assessed on March 23. Please bring in your child’s birth certificate and immunization record. The agenda for the child will include kindergarten skills assessment, vision, hearing, speech, and checking health records.
Kindergarten children are required to have a physical exam within 12 months of beginning school and have all current immunizations. The Girard Medical Center is available for immunizations and physicals; if you would like to contact them for a coinciding appointment call 620-756-4111.
Due to the screenings, there will be no Kindergarten class on March 23rd.
For the best testing environment for your child, we ask that you not bring brothers or sisters.
To set up a time for screening and assessment, please call the school at 620-224-2350, option 1, or visit https://tinyurl.com/2026WBEK-Roundup.

All games will be at WBE starting at 4:30pm with boys jv, then girls varsity, senior recognition, then boys varsity.
