Lunchroom Reminder: Keeping Our Students Healthy & Focused!
Dear WBE Families,
As we settle into the new school year, we want to share a quick reminder regarding lunchroom expectations to help ensure our students have the best possible day at school. We discourage students from bringing carbonated beverages (sodas, energy drinks, fizzy drinks, etc.) to drink with their lunches.
Our goal is to foster a healthy mind, body, and learning environment for every child. High-sugar and carbonated drinks often lead to energy spikes, mid-afternoon crashes, and upset stomachs, making it harder for students to focus and participate during class.
Thank you for your partnership in promoting healthy habits that set our students up for success every day!
Building a Stronger Community Together: Child Find Screening
At West Bourbon Elementary, we are committed to supporting every child’s unique learning journey! USD 235, in partnership with SEK Interlocal #637, provides free Child Find Screenings to help identify, locate, and evaluate children ages 3–5 who may have a suspected disability or developmental delay.
We assess growth across key developmental areas:
* Motor Skills** (Fine & Gross Motor)
* Communication & Language
* Cognitive Development
* Adaptive & Personal/Social Skills
Upcoming Screening Dates at West Bourbon Elementary:
* Wednesday, August 26 (Morning session)
* Wednesday, January 20 (Morning session)
Additional appointments are also available as needed during September, December, February, and April.
To schedule a screening appointment for your child, please reach out to Julie Akins or Jennifer Vaughn at (620) 235-3155. Let’s work together to give our youngest learners the best start possible!

Hydration and Water Bottle Guidelines
Proper hydration is key to keeping our students energized, focused, and ready to learn! To support this, every student has been provided with a WBE water bottle.
If you choose to send a personal water bottle from home instead, please ensure it meets our guidelines:
Clear/See-Through (No glass)
Water only (No drink mixes, powders, or flavor infusers)
Spill-resistant lid
Arrives at school empty (Students fill them at designated school stations)
Sent home for cleaning
Thank you for your partnership and support in making the start of this school year a success. It is going to be a fantastic year at WBE!
