The next time you are in the HS gym, look up. NextEra Energy is doing some work in our part of the county and volunteered to pay for the remodel of our gym lighting. Not only are the new LED lights more efficient, but the brightness and color have also been greatly improved. We appreciate partners who look for ways to connect with and enhance our systems and programs. Thanks again NextEra Energy!

WBE students participate in First Friday Innovation activities each month. Be sure you ask a 3rd grader what an owl pellet is and what treasures they found in them!

Real World Wednesday: Part 2 Seniors enrolled in the 12th grade Agriculture class at UHS learned today the terms and processes associated with purchasing a home. They also used an online loan calculator to learn that at current interest rates (6.5-7.0%) they would pay more in interest on a $100,000 home than what the home was worth. Students experimented with various scenarios to see the difference in costs when using different term lengths and interest rates.

Seniors enrolled in UHS Agriculture classes learned how to properly address an envelope, how much postage costs and were asked to write a thank you card to at least one person and mail it today. This type of lesson will be part of the weekly "Real World Wednesday" lessons where students learn basic skills that will hopefully allow them to become more knowledgeable adults. Students had the chance to identify numerous life skills and concepts they would like to learn this year. Topics chosen were: taxes, insurance, cooking, loans, investing, basic car services, scheduling appointments, buying a home or car and many other important skill sets for adulthood. Stay tuned each week as I will share the experiences gained each week.
