JH students pose with their completed balsa wood bridge prior to competition. Groups were tasked with building a balsa wood bridge to hold as much weight as possible with just 20' of sticks. They could use any design as long as it met the requirements of 14'' long 3-4" wide and up to 4" tall. Each year they are chasing the school record of 107 lbs. Our best this round was 74 lbs. Careers involved in the lessons were civil engineering, construction workers, architects, and contractors.
